The Great Pyramid of Giza

I was fortunate enough to visit Cairo to see The Great Pyramid of Giza and other places of interest in the year 1997, while I was also visiting Cyprus and Israel. The Great Pyramid of Giza, called the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops, are the oldest and largest Pyramids in Egypt and also one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It is believed that the Pyramid wasbuilt as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu over an approximately 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. Initially it was 480.6 ft. height and was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years, the longest period of time ever held for such a record. Most accepted construction hypotheses are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place. When I visited the Giza it looked like a big desert. There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. Besides, there are two other big pyramids along with a number of small pyramids in the area. The Sphinx, which has haunches of a lion and wings of a great bird and the face and breast of a woman, is a wonderful sight.Touching the Pyramid I was thrilled as if I am touching a time of 5000 years before.
