Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza means at the mouth of the well. I visitedChichen Itza which is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built during Maya civilization located in the northern centre of Yucatan Peninsula in the Yucatan State, present day Mexico. As a traveller I visited this wonderful site of Maya Civilization in June,2010. From Delhi I went to SanFrancisco and from San Francisco to Merida, capitalof Yucatan. One possible translation forItza is wizard or enchantment of water. Chichen Itza rose to regional prominence towards the end of Early Classical period roughly 600 AD. The site contains many fine stone buildings in various states of preservation, and many have been restored. The buildings are connected by a dense network of formerly paved roads. The three best known of these complexes are the Great North Platform, which includes the monuments of El Castillo, Temple of Warriors and the Great Ball Court. The Ossario Group, which includes the pyramid of the same name as well as the Temple of Xtoloc and the Central Group, which includes the Caracol, Las Monjas, and AkabDzib. The land under the monuments had been privately-owned until 2010, when it was purchased by the state of Yucatán and this site is one of the seven wonders of the world I have found there similarity of Indian culture in faith and belief. I have also visited other Maya sites at Uxmal and in Merida.
